Top Coders from the National Capital Region Earn Checkered Flag at Indy! 

Indianapolis, IN – August 9, 2014—Regional High School Computer Competition (HSCC) Champions from the National Capital Region, BDPA-DC, and BDPA NoVA competed with other top coders from across America during the National High School Computer Competition's scholarship rounds at the JW Marriott Indianapolis during the National BDPA (NBDPA) Technology Conference.

The nation’s top five HSCC teams for 2014 are Washington (DC), Greater Columbia (SC), Southern Minnesota (MN), Atlanta (GA), and Cincinnati (OH). National HSCC Scholarship rounds include information and communication technology (ICT) theory question and answer sessions with industry trivia or current events, application design, development, and test sessions upon receiving real-world desktop or mobile app requirements, followed by oral presentations with technical demonstrations to industry panels judges, sponsors, hiring managers, or technical recruiters.

Giving Back
Regional stakeholders provide financial support, in-kind services, volunteers, keynote speakers, industry panelists, competition judges, and role models enabling local HSCC and IT Showcase teams embrace technology, travel to technology conferences such as BDPA14 in Indianapolis 
to compete for scholarships, and tour corporate technology centers and headquarters venues within the region.  


This year’s corporate engagements from industry and BDPA’s local mission partners include the following. National BDPA and BDPA Chapter cities across the United States celebrate NBDPA's 40th Anniversary in 2015. The District of Columbia and NBDPA's Washington, D.C. Chapter  will host an International Technology Conference & Career Expo at the Washington Hilton next year, August 18-23, 2015.

The mission of BDPA (formerly Black Data Processing Associates) is to bridge cybersecurity, information technology (IT) and telecommunications competency gaps in urban and underserved communities. Local chapter goals in the National Capital Region (NCR) are to provide technology and IT training programs with educational outreach services for professionals and youth in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area in direct support of technology inclusion (TECH-Inclusion) initiatives, next-generation workforce (NGWF) thrusts, and regional economic development.

Regional BDPA Chapters and BDPA Chapter Interest Groups (CIGs) also work with information communication and technology (ICT) industry partners to develop workforce pipelines in the National Capital Region (NCR). Regional and local efforts directly support the President's CNCI (Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative), federal agency ICT staffing requirements, and public sector ICT pipelines.

Internet Pioneer Emmit J. McHenry To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award during 35th Anniversary Gala in Washington

Emmit J. McHenryWashington, D.C.--Emmit J. McHenry will be honored by National BDPA's Washington, D.C. Chapter during the host chapter's 35th Anniversary Banquet and Awards Gala, Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the Washington, Navy Yard Conference Center.



Mr. McHenry is a founding Principal of Archura, LLC, holding the position of Chairman and CEO. Mr. McHenry founded several companies prior to Archura, LLC. They include NetCom Solutions International, Inc. and Network Solutions, Inc., the Internet domain name service provider.


Mr. McHenry has held management positions with IBM, Connecticut General, Union Mutual, and Allstate Insurance Company, where he served in several positions including regional vice president for the five northwestern states (Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii).
He has held positions on the Executive Committee for the Council on Competitiveness and the Board of Directors for James Martin Government Intelligence and Global Technology, L.L.C. Mr. McHenry has a BA in Communications from the University of Denver, passed the qualifying exam for a PhD after receiving his MA in Communications from Northwestern, and holds an Honorary Ph.D. from Shaw University. Mr. McHenry is a Service Disabled Veteran, having served as a Communications officer in the United States Marine Corps.

Andre Gudger | Director


Mr. Andre J. Gudger was appointed by the President as the Director of the Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP) in March 2011. Mr. Gudger serves as the principal advisor to the Secretary of Defense on small business matters.

Mr. Gudger provided keynote remarks during National BDPA's Small Business Advance Program Briefing to Industry (APBI) and Round-Table discussions during this year's 35th annual technology conference. Topics included NDAA 2013 highlights, STEM, and TECH Inclusion teaming opportunities for National BDPA members, small business owners, sponsors and stakeholders.

NBDPA Platinum Sponsor donates Notebook PCs to regional 2013 HSCC Finalists


Washington--On Saturday, August 10, 2013, National BDPA (NBDPA) Platinum Sponsor, HP, presented new HP ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition Notebook PCs with Beats Audio, to student finalists selected for the national capital region's High School Computer Competition (HSCC) team. This year's finalists are representing the region's Host Chapter and "Home Team", BDPA Washington (BDPA-DC), during NBDPA's HSCC Scholarship round. HSCC student members from BDPA Atlanta's 2012 team, are the nation's reigning National HSCC Champions.

Competition for the 2013 National HSCC Championship and HSCC Scholarship Rounds begin August 15th and 16th at the Washington Hilton, in Washington, D.C. Winners will be announced Saturday evening, August 17th, during the 35th Annual National BDPA Technology Conference and Awards Gala.
